Meroe Tour Packages
Meroe was an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile about 200 km northeast of Khartoum. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush after the earlier capital of Napata was sacked in c. 590 BCE. Meroe grew to become the marvellous city that was famous for its wealth in ancient times. The city was known as the Island of Meroe as the waters streaming around it made it seem like an island. Meroe has an amazing architectural style that was influenced by its trading routes with Egyptian, Greeks and Romans. Its monuments are some of the main and the most important discoveries in the whole African continent.

Trips to Meroe
The ancient city of Meroe is the homeland of nearly 200 pyramids which make it one of the places in Sudan to visit. The pyramids were built of huge blocks of sandstone in the Nubian style and they seem completely different to the Egyptian pyramids, with smaller grounds and more steeply sloped sides. But they were built for the same reason – to serve as a tomb and representation of power for the kings and queens of the ancient Meroe. Book your trip to Meroe and enjoy a great view of the amazing Meroe pyramids, in addition to many other beautiful places to visit.
Meroe Attractions
In addition to the Meroe pyramids that we mentioned before, there are other Meroe attractions that must be visited such as Naga which is located about 110 kilometres northeast of Khartoum and 30 kilometres east of the Nile. The Naga houses are considered some of the best-preserved relics of the Meroitic period. Naqa comprises various Meroitic temples, however, the two largest and most important temples of Naqa are the Temple of Amun and Apedemak temples or the Temple of the Lion. You can also visit Musawwarat es-Sufra which is a large Meroitic temple complex that can’t be missed during your trip to Meroe.
