Medinet Habu

Where the fertile Nile floodplain meets the desert lies the Mortuary Temple of Ramses III, known locally by its Arabic name Medinet Habu.
The temple is considered the best-preserved of the New Kingdom memorial temples and is decorated with scenes and texts illustrating the military victories of the king, as well as the rituals performed and festivals celebrated at the temple.

The Royal Palace of Ramses III south of the temple was directly connected with the first courtyard of the Temple via the “Window of Appearances”.

In Coptic times, there was a church inside the temple structure, which has since been removed. Some of the carvings in the main wall of the temple have been altered by coptic carvings.
