Djoser Step Pyramid at Sakkara

It’s not an overemphasis when we refer to Saqqara as one of the most essential , crucial area and moreover the oldest cemetery in Egypt.

More than eleven royal pyramids were hosted in Saqqara plateau. The necropolis covers more than 7 km long and situated south of Cairo on the west bank of the Nile river.

The centerpiece at Saqqara is the Step Pyramid of Djoser, from the Early Dynastic Period, people used to entomb the body in something called mastaba, but Imhotep” Djoser’s architecture” envisioned something else where he developed the primeval flat- roofed mastaba to a complete pyramid. It is about 62m tall, covers 37 acres and consists of many mastabas, and this is where the name was derived from. The Pyramid of Djoser is considered the first large-scale cut-stone structure ever.
